MAGIC PODIUM FOR REINIS NITIŠS IN SWEDEN

JĒKABPILS, LATVIA
08/07/2019

On Sunday, round six of the FIA World Rallycross Championship, World RX of Sweden, concluded in Holjes with GRX development driver Reinis Nitišs taking part. After rolling the car in Q1, the Jēkabpils native showed tremendous pace throughout the remaining heats and achieved a magical result – from last place after Q1, he managed to reach the podium by the end.

“The race did not quite begin as I had expected – I rolled the car for the first time in my career in the very first corner of Q1. Stepping out of the car, I spent a moment thinking whether this should signal the end of my rallycross career.

I would like to thank my team and mechanics who managed to get the car back into working order. And, I would like to thank the people closest to me, who helped me regain confidence before Q2. The rest of the event went much better, with me winning Q2 which put me back into contention for points and a good result. Undoubtedly, the weather and start position draw helped me, but rules are the rules and we cannot control the weather. Winning Q2 came with an added bonus of giving me a much needed boost of confidence in my own abilities.

Afterwards, the spectators were treated to one of the most amazing rallycross events in recent memory, with lots of contact, punctured wheels and driver errors. I managed to maintain my pace and conclude qualifying in fourth place, giving me a front row start position in the semi-final. The semi-final and final were two of the most difficult heats I have ever done, which makes the end result that much sweeter. If, after Q1, anyone had told me that I would finish the race on the podium, I would never believe it. If that is not magical, I do not know what is!” says Reinis Nitišs after the event.
