REINIS NITIŠS WINS EUROPEAN RALLYCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP

RĪGA, LATVIA
16/09/2018

In sunny weather, along with the finish of Neste World RX of Latvia, the 2018 FIA European Rallycross Season for Supercar concluded in Biķernieki today, with Jēkabpils native Reinis Nitišs earning the loudest ovations after becoming European Rallycross Champion. It is notable that the winner’s cup was handed to the Latvian by Kenneth Hansen, a rallycross legend who has earned fourteen European championship titles in his career!

“I will not hide the fact that this was a tough weekend – we came here with a large lead in the championship, but a lot of anxiety, as we know how quickly things can change in rallycross. In addition to that, I had to start from the outside in Q1, in the same race as Raymond and Bryntesson, which did not make our task any easier. This time, it turned out that there was nothing to worry about, and we could calm down a bit after Q1, and after Q4 I could breathe easier, as we had fulfilled our objective and won the European Rallycross Championship!

This was a huge and very important event in my life – however, I did not let the emotions get the best of me after qualifying, and focused on the task at hand. I won my semi-final, and drove as fast as I could in the final to come out with a win. And we did it – I won the final by 0.3 seconds. Thank you to the whole SET Promotion team – I can now look myself in the mirror and confidently say that we did the best we could!

Thank you to all my fans and supporters – you are mad! So many of you, so loud, and that is exactly what made this race so special. Yesterday someone asked whether I heard the song before my start, and I said that I did not. But today, after crossing the finish line, I heard the cheers from the grandstands, which means that you were very loud and passionate!

Thank you to my partners for this season – those who you can see on my car and those who help in other ways and stay in the background. Believe me, even though I am the driver, racing is a team sport, and you cannot achieve much by doing it alone!

I would also like to thank my family about their effort and support throughout these years, with a special thanks to my mother who stepped on the podium to give me flowers – it was a very special and emotional moment that I will always remember. Thank you!” says Reinis Nitišs after the event.
