REINIS NITIŠS JOINS GRX TANECO AS A DEVELOPMENT DRIVER

JĒKABPILS, LATVIA
11/02/2019

After a successful 2018 season, where Reinis Nitišs became the FIA European Rallycross Champion, the Jēkabpils native will join the team of two-time world rally champion Marcus Gronholm, competing in selected rounds of the FIA World Rallycross Championship as a development driver for the team, to help them further improve the rallycross cars.

“GRX Taneco and SET Promotion teams are closely related and, after winning the European title in Biķernieki, I had tests in a Hyundai i20 Supercar. I helped make some small but significant improvements that the team used in the final rounds of the year,” says the 23-year-old driver Reinis Nitišs. “Even though this is not a full season programme, it is great to return to the World Championship. I will spend most of the season in the background, working with the team or trying new improvements, but when I do get to compete, I will try to get the best possible result – no matter how familiar with the competitors I am.”

Marcus Gronholm’s team, GRX, debuted in the FIA World Rallycross Championship in 2017, with his son Niclas Gronholm competing in an M-Sport Ford Fiesta (which was also used last year by Nitišs). In 2018, the Finland based team competed with two Hyundai i20 Supercar class cars (driven by N.Gronholm and T.Timerzyanov), which are based on the WRC car chassis.

“I’m happy to have Reinis on-board with us alongside Niclas and Timur and I’m looking forward on his input on the car’s development and work within the team. We all saw his speed last year and I’m sure that on the races Nitišs will do, he will mix up the field quite a lot and provide a good challenge for his rivals,” comments GRX Taneco team manager Marcus Gronholm.

Reinis Nitišs participation in the FIA World Rallycross Championship is possible thanks to the support by Ginalas, Ošukalns, Citadele, and the city of Jēkabpils, as well as Gefa Latvija, Latvijas Valsts Meži, Auto 5, If apdrošināšana, Pasaules Optika, Latvijas Automobiļu Federācija, and RA Events.
