NITIŠS / NEIKŠĀNS WIN ERC2 CLASS OF RALLY LIEPĀJA

Last weekend, FIA World Rallycross Championship driver Reinis Nitišs, co-driven by Māris Neikšāns, won the ERC2 (group N4 cars) class of the FIA European Rally Championship round Rally Liepāja.

“This is an unexpected and unbelievable result. Rallying is a great way to do a lot of stage kilometres, gain experience and develop, but we never expected to win our class,” begins Reinis Nitišs.

“After the first few stages, we saw that our speed is good enough to battle for a podium spot, but keeping up the pace in such conditions was difficult. It is very easy to make mistakes on the fast roads of Liepāja region, and I did make a few, but luckily we got through everything with only a scare for myself and Māris [Neikšāns]. I am thankful to Cirkle K Latvia, who made it possible for me to take part in this event, and would like to commend the fantastic work by Neiksans Rally Sport team to prepare and service our rally car.”

Nitišs / Neikšāns also contested the Latvian Rally Championship classification, and were, respectively, second and first in LRČ2 class in the sixth and seventh rounds of the championship, giving them third position in the 2017 season standings.

“I am very satisfied with Reinis’ development and ability to adapt to changing conditions. Kurzeme region rallies are never easy, and the changing and unpredictable weather made this one that much more difficult. Our main objective was to reach the finish, but doing so in first place raises the expectations for next time we compete in a rally,” adds Nitišs’ co-driver and rally coach Māris Neikšāns.

Reinis Nitišs’ next race in the FIA World Rallycross Championship will be the season closing event in South Africa, from November 11 to 12.
